Ryan Van Kessel started PROspections back in 2012 with a goal to help people evaluate properties they were considering for purchase in Calgary, Airdrie and surrounding areas. The business grew because Ryan shared knowledge, built rapport, and left clients feeling confident about their decisions. By assessing issues and solving problems, Ryan and his team became a source of knowledge and an ongoing resource for his clients, long after the initial inspections were done.

A desire to educate during the home inspection

Many clients are content to hand over the keys and obtain the report. That’s OK, but PROspections inspectors are happier when clients are peering over their shoulders. The way they see it: clients are much better educated and feel more comfortable when seeing firsthand what’s later written in the report. They feel better prepared to tackle any suggested remediations, or potentially, walk away from the purchase.

As a Certified Master Inspector (CMI)®, Ryan Van Kessel has reached the top of his profession and has demonstrated the highest level of competency. But that’s not all. Ryan brings a unique combination of skills to the job. Most home inspectors leverage their experience in construction when making the move to deliver inspection services. Ryan checks that box, having been immersed in construction since the age of 15. By the time he graduated from Western University at 22, Ryan was coordinating the space planning portion of a $400 million restructuring and construction project at the London Health Sciences Centre in Ontario.

While construction experience is very important, Ryan doubles down with a 15-year career in insurance remediation and restoration. Fire, flood, hail; buildings damaged by falling trees, car accidents, breaking and entering, and explosions; remediation of mould due to exposure to water (leaks, cracks in tiles, seeping through foundations) and grow ops; and asbestos abatement. He’s seen the worst, and he knows what needs to be done to fix it.
